Clarissa, anyone? Are you singing along with me? No? Maybe this will jog your memory:
I effing LOVED Clarissa Explains It All when I was a kid. That dorky dad? Totally my dad! That hippie mom? Well, not my mom at all, but whatev!
Notice that for this opening song, Nickelodeon decided to dress her like a hooker. The show was just that edgy! However, I decided a good round of imaginary dress up was appropriate here. Lets pretend Clarissa didn't somehow morph into a mediocre teenage witch, and instead went on with her life, and her crazy/awesome wardrobe:
A little rock and roll, a little off kilter (And and and! See the lizard ring? Total nod to her pet iguana, Elvis. Fangirl, right here.)
EDIT: I have been informed by a source far more knowledgeble in these matters than me that Elvis was not, in fact, an iguana, but an alligator. omgembarrassing. Thanks, Aurora!
Clockwise: Hat, All Saints; Shirt, Hot Topic; Suspenders, La Garconne; Skirt, General Pants; Shoes, Browns; Ring, Cabiri.
A little grunge, a little girly.
Jacket, Ashish; Dress, Anna Sui; Bracelets, H&M; Earrings, YSL; Boots, Net-A-Porter.
A little boyish, a little tongue in cheek.
And I actually lost all the sources for this one! Oh well, it's probably all from H&M anyway.
So, okay, now that I've whet your appetite, immerse yourself in an episode here (about a new friend who steals her style no less- how apropos) and let me know if I've hit the mark or not.
PS! Sorry (to anyone who was really agonized over it) about the total post drop-off this past ten days or so. Lately my life's been wack. Wiggity wack, even. Yeah, just like that.

No way. This show was pretty next level. Who didn't like it? That's the real question. Although I'll be honest, I didn't remember the iquana. I just remember her friend coming through the window. So extra points to you!!
ReplyDeleteps. i hate when life is full of the wackness.
Love the last outfit!
ReplyDeleteAnd the space skirt + Denim Jacket <3 I want!!!
weird.... I was just wondering what happened to this actress. She fell off the face of the earth after 10 Things I Hate about You.
ReplyDeleteI never got into the show, but I loove your collages! Love the last look especially because I love that Wildfox sweatshirt!! :) xo, Mel
ReplyDeleteDonna, Melissa Joan Hart wasn't in 10 Things, that was Larisa Oleynik, and she was in that Nickelodeon show The Secret World of Alex Mack: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0646351/
ReplyDeleteLauren, i was watching an SVU episode where MJH was a teacher who was being investigated for sleeping with a 16 year old student. They pulled out these racy photos of her in garter belts to use as evidence, and I gasped louder than any gasp in the history of gasps. I couldn't handle Clarissa looking sexy. She looks identical, by the way, never aged at all!
the hats, the suspenders, the Anna Sui dress, the bracelets and the grounge boots...they all scream Clarissa Darling to me. It's a silly show, i know, but weren't we all silly in the 90s? Most of us were kids and we didn't even know it. Anyhoo, nevermind that yadda talk, lovely post!

Clarissa has one of the best-tv-teen-styles of all time!
ReplyDeleteI was a bit young when the show originally aired, but I know own many episodes on VHS (still pretty old school) and I love watching them just to see what she's wearing. It's dorky, but it's so much fun!
i had not thought of Clarissa Explains It All in years! I'm not sure I'd want to watch it now... may not live up to my memories. (I found that out with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
ReplyDeleteAww, it's always wonderful to catch a bit of Clarissa! I'll def be passing that link to my friends on facebook :D
ReplyDeletei love the outfits you picked, they look like a lot of fun to wear!
